Book Like This is an imaginative and fresh piece of work. The sibling team trade off songs which have a somewhat different sound, but go together well. Even though it is clear who is responsible for each song by who is singing, their collaboration in arranging enriches the composition nicely. Their recent solo work seems to lack this richness. I got their second album, Down the Way, first which I really liked a lot. The reviews for this album were more mixed so I did not expect to like this one as much, but I do. It has a simpler and less produced sound, but it all works well. Angus's songs are stronger, but Julia has a few very good ones as well. There is only one song on this CD I don't like. This duo deserves more recognition in the US. They have been quite successful in Europe and in their native Australia.I heard a couple of songs from this brother and sister duo on public radio and was intrigued, so I bought the cd and found out that it is one of those rare cd's where the entire cd is actually really well done. The songs are all a bit moody, so know that goin in. No dance tracks here. The only problem I have with the cd is the way the duo are not really a duo but two singer songwriters who trade tracks. Angus (the brother) has an amazing voice and I found myself repeating his songs over and over again. Julia, while having a great voice, though at times it gets a bit whiny for me, is kind of a shock to the ears, coming on the track following her brothers. That, however is the only bad thing I have to say about this cd. It is well worth the money spent in my oppinion.I actually like the concept of the two singer/songwriters trading tracks. Julia has a very strong Australian accent and an unusual voice. Angus writes his songs and sings like a young Neil Young. The songs aren't as deep as Dylan or Neil Young, although the sound is similar. I guess Australians don't have as much to be bitter about as we do in America. I did enjoy this album and am looking forward to hearing more from these two.I like all of the tracks except the oddly off-color one about fairtale disappointments in life and the one about private loans and public parts (which is repetitive and just a weird subject). The rest of the CD is very chill. The female singer reminds me of the girl from portishead, but I prefer the songs with the guy vocalist. Their general composition is a bit monotone at times, but again, it's all very chill, good driving music.Nice album with great songs.Great lyrics, the songs have real content and are worth many listenings. Nice instrumentals and fine orchestration. Great vocals with some hilarious Australian accents (to a New Yorkah anyway). The Sundays meet Tuck and Patti? Maybe not, but you get the idea. I heard a track first on [...] (they are a great source to hear new tunes) and had to get it. I was not disappointed, all the tracks are quite good, and I will listen to this a dozen times end-to-end before it gets into the mix.It came pretty quickly and in perfect condition all the way from Oz.I just received the four cds i ordered and listened to angus and julia stone- a book like this. i can't believe my good fortune as i had not listened to maybe one song of theirs. amazing cd. I am calling several people i know and telling them they have to get it. The songs are beautiful, her voice is beautiful and the music is amazing. I am going to play it over and over. Good music brings so much joy in my life and this one made me so happy. thank you angus and julia.I had been listening to this CD for years through Spotify and wanted my own copy. I could listen to Book Like This repeatedly. I'm not exactly sure what draws me to their music, but Julia's voice creates some kind of emotional trip that I obviously enjoy. I ordered other of their CDs at the same time and have been enjoying all this new music.A great album to smoke to, loads of stoner references and the album is well produced, Julia has a sort of dreamy way about her, whilst Angus`s guitar playing is complicated and well engineered, sounds superb on recordReally good album with only one suspect rendition "when a man loves a woman"A collection of thirteen beautiful songs, with perhaps the title track being the MOST beautiful. Well worth collecting, but if you were to choose just ONE of the Australian siblings' albums, I would recommend it's successor 'Down The Way', which I reckon is a tad stronger, and has more highpoints.Very good album and very good sound quality. All the songs are so nice that I could listen to that album on and on and on....Possibly one of the best albums I’ve listened too! Has great chill songs, it has upbeat songs and both angus and julia stone’s voices are beautiful together. If you’re trying to get into this duo, I think this is the best place to start!
