Luciana Souza is a complete persona as a composer and singer. Her vocal sound is lovely and unadorned, with accompaniment that enhances without overpowering. Her settings of these poems are beautifully actualized, enhancing the lyrics, accentuating the emotional tone of the stories being told in the poems. Her own lyrics, in a number of the songs, are also deep, evocative, and poetic. Her harmonic sensibility is sophisticated, fluid, and very rich, sometimes impressionistic, sometimes rooted in accessibility and familiarity. I will play this CD often - I love her musical vision.
