A crucial addition to a completist's collection, whether it be a Willie fan or just a fan of country music & its history. If you're a casual fan looking for a few familiar Willie hits look into smaller, more economical collections. Willie's years with RCA Records saw him struggling against the corporate Nashville Sound to find his own voice. Many of his sessions highlight what DIDN'T work, but there are some real gems in this expansive retrospective from the great people at Bear Family Records, particularly some alternate tracks sans Nashville sweetening (overdubs, background singers, etc.). It also features unreleased tracks, many Willie originals rarely heard, a live concert album from 1966, the excellent album Willie recorded with Ernest Tubb's Texas Troubadours, his Texas tribute album, & the groundbreaking concept album "Yesterday's Wine" that sets up his future creative successes. Also includes a hardcover book with 40+ pages of notes about Willie's RCA years, rare, wonderful photos, & a complete discography.
