Red Book is an interesting title for this emotional album by Texas. Sharleen's vocals are still to die for but the musical composition will have you on your feet. It's powerful. This is without a doubt Texas' most complete album (that I have, which is most of them as I write this....will update as needed) and thus its best. There is not a track worth skipping.0:36: Like other Texas' numerical songs it lasts that long. It's a fine primer...what do you hear? What do you feel in these thirty-six seconds? There's something there. At the end the door opens as you leave the past behind. You're now fully in this magical realm. 8/10.Getaway: And you're ending the relationship. You've reached the end and gotta getaway. This fits into the mold of some unconventional Texas lyrics throughout their albums...still this one leaves me wanting more. 7/10.Can't Resist: This is the first of 3 Kylie Minogue-esque songs that dare I say Kylie couldn't pull off better. Sharleen's voice is so seductive in this song. Yummy. 9/10What About Us: The verses in this song could have been better but I accept them for what they are. The rest of the song is pure brilliance. The percussion and sweeping vocals will send you to some other dimension where all is love. 10/10.Cry: A scolding song, "You blew it all..." There's a nice balance of a second chance given with "Save your love." 8/10.Sleep: Out of left field comes this classic. "I think you are the one when every time you call me lady" is the first line and it gets better from there. This song is a duet with Paul Buchanan (from the fellow Scottish band Blue Nile...yeah, I never heard of them either. They're probably worth checking out as the dude's voice is legit.) . Friends or something more? This song takes it to the next level. 10/10.Get Down Tonight: This is the second of the Kylie-esque songs. Just filled with sexual innuendo. This should land on your make-out playlist. 10/10.Nevermind: Love is not to be taken for granted in this song. Commit. 10/10.Bad Weather: The third of the Kylie-esque songs. Is it love or fear of love? I think the song would have been better if it made a choice either way. Instead we get indecision. Like Getaway, I'm wanting more. 8/10Masterthief: Another quality love song. Who's stolen your heart? The masterthief of course. 10/10.Just Hold On: As a synthpop fan (Erasure is my favorite band)... I have to say this song musically is a pure gem worthy of Vince Clarke's praise. The synths are magical. 10/10.Red Book: What the hell is the Red Book? Carl Jung's Red Book is my guess. Dream. Turn another page...what do you see? Connect with your unconscious self ("trust in me, don't be misunderstood") and leave the room. The album is over. 10/10.Congratulations. You just listened to some intense songs. I bet you're feeling inspired and happy. Texas did their job. God bless this band.Nevermind, Just Hold On, Red Book, Masterthief, Sleep, What About Us? God....this album is epic. HOLY. Thank you Texas. REALLY THANK YOU.
