Back in 1992 Relativity Records (not Combat) issued 8 Best Of cds for bands that had established themselves in the hard underground music scene. The bands were: Venom, Possessed, Death, Dark Angel, Exodus, Forbidden, Agnostic Front, and The Exploited. Each cd had its own name for the collection. Venom's is called "The Book Of Armageddon" as seen here. Anyone who's familiar with all these bands knows they're all worthy of a Best Of collection. In fact, Venom has countless anthology/discography/best of releases out there. Not as many as Motorhead, but who does ?! Anyway, 17 years ago it was a lot easier to pick 10 great songs from Venom. Most people think their early stuff is the best anyway, although their "Possessed" disc gets less than stellar reviews. Well here, 10 songs were picked, as they were for all these other Relativity releases (except for the Agnostic Front one). One interesting note is that this Venom disc is VERY rare and hard to get. For some reason, it appears there were more copies pressed for all the other bands, especially Death, AF, and The Exploited. As with most best of's, there is a lot of debate on the song selection. That is the case here too, where I think it coulda been done better. Then again, if the best 10 or 15 songs were used every time, all the discography cds would be the same. So if you're 16 years old and new to Venom then here's a simple breakdown of the track listing here; primarily from their first 3 full lengths Welcome To Hell, Black Metal and At War With Satan -NOT A FAV:Teacher's Pet, Buried Alive/Raise The Dead (this is actually one track, so you're kinda getting 11 tracks overall), ManitouSOLID/WORTHY/NOT A POPULAR FAV BUT A PERSONAL FAV:Rip Ride, 1000 Days Of SodomCLASSIC:Witching Hour, Countless Bathory, Live Like An Angel Die Like A Devil, Black Metal, Blood Lust- Jay in Texas
