This title must be one of the most unusual stories for the release of an album that I have ever heard. In fact, the liner notes on the cd that I have say that it is an example of "great music produced in spite of the business rather than because of it."Recorded in 1985, this album was to be one of Gil Evan's last recording projects prior to his death in 1988. He collaborated as conductor and electric pianist with saxophonist Hall on this suite/fantasia as described by Hall. Even nailing down the first release date is difficult. Best I could find is a 1994 German release followed 2 years later by an American release on Koch Jazz.Whatever you can do to find cd is worth it. If you like creative, extended Jazz such as Mile Davis' "In A Silent Way" or are a fan of Gil Evans', you MUST find this pretty much unknown gem of Jazz genius. Canadian Glen Hall knew who would bring out the best in his work and this album captures it forever.Don't walk - RUN to find "Mother of the Book". You will be part of a small collection of avid Jazz fans who revere this as a Buried Treaure of a Jazz Masterpiece.
